Merriment and good cheer abounded at the annual Kiwanis Christmas Party, hosted by Jim and Jeanie Chase.

Neither rain, snow, nor subzero temperatures shall hinder a Kiwanian from dancing around an open fire with sharp sticks and globs of sugar and chocolate. As part of the Hometown Holidays celebration in Arlington, Kiwanis proudly sponsored the smores pit. The celebration was a huge success with many adults and children alike enjoyed roasting marshmallows over the open fire and then topping it off with chocolate and graham crackers. Special thanks to all those that volunteered to help in the cold weather.

In what is soon to be an annual event not to be missed, Workshop Wars is coming to prime time. The local Kiwanis club will be giving Santa’s Workshop a run for its money by merrily assembling the swags for the Christmas Season. Santa has a good showing on Black Friday with his workshop toys, but the Kiwanis pulled out all the stops and were able to assemble and sell to several of the interclubs as well as many of the residents of Arlington. Proceeds from the Swag sales, go directly to scholarships given to needy college students by the Kiwanis club. Let’s see Santa top that one. Thanks to all that helped with the swag process, as it was a huge success this year.

The men of the Arlington Kiwanis Club braved the elements to hunt the elusive fir bough for the raw materials to make holiday swags. After a few yells of “timber”, two trailers were filled in short order. The men then joined in celebration of the hunt by gathering around the bonfire. Group photo was courtesy of Denny who stayed behind the lens so that others may be recognized for the days activities.

June 4-5, 2011 Arlington Relay for Life
- Original club goals included:
- Fund raising goal: $1,000.
- Have every member participate on a team, even though it may not be a club team.
- Have at least one member on the walking track at all times.
- Here is what we accomplished:
- Funds raised: $3,441
- We had 2 teams which included 29 of our members; other members were committed to another team; we projected that all club members were involved in one way or another.
- Although we can not confirm that a member was on the track at all times we can confirm that club members were on site at all times.
- The Arlington Relay for Life organization established a goal of challenging the individual teams to have “No Zeros” amongst our team members….AND WE REACHED THAT GOAL!!!!!
In addition our club was a Bronze Sponsor which equates to a club donation of $500.00. So when you combine the sponsorship donation with the overall fund raising effort our total contribution was:
$3,941.00.
